A Japanese lacquer fubako letter box and cover, Meiji period (1868-1912) - rectangular form, decorated in maki-e in red, gilt and bark-textured decoration on a black ground, depicting a building on a lake shore with a mountain distant and a bird in flight and the moon above, the sides with various insects, signed, the sides with two metal rings on flower-shaped mounts, gilt-lined rims, the interior with nashiji decoration, 21.3 x 11.4 x 5.1cm.
* Small flakes and chips to the edges of the cover and base, a few flakes to the underside of the box and two flakes to the underside of the lid. Some wear to gilt to the decoration on the lid. A few craze lines to the black lacquer to the sides of the lid.
