A Japanese celadon glazed stoneware vase and cover, probably for the Korean market, late 19th / early 20th century, of baluster form, the domed cover with large bulbous finial, painted in enamels with five cranes in flight, below a white enamelled and gilt border to the shoulder with flowers and leafy scrolls on a diaper ground, a conforming border to the cover, the foot with a white and gilt enamelled lappet border and enamelled petal decoration to the finial, 14¼in. (36.2cm.) high, faults.
* Condition: Old chip to underside of edge of cover, which has been stained black. Uneven crackling to the celadon glaze throughout and some longer glaze cracks visible around the main body of the vase. Three small chips to inside of neck rim and several firing cracks to the rim, two of which have caused short hairlines to form. Several firing cracks to edge of base.
