A KRIEGSMARINE BAROGRAPH, CIRCA 1944

the Bakelite recording drum containing clockwork motor, mounted on ebonised steel bedplate, with recording arm assembly with 7 pressure cells, hinged wooden case with steel Kriegsmarine label numbered 4606N and aluminium drop handle and securing hatches -- 11in. (28cm.) wide

This barograph was found aboard the yacht Scaldis which was moored in Amsterdam when the Nazis occupied the city. Seconding the yacht, it survived the War and was located and recovered from a German dockyard by the original owners in 1947 when this barograph was found aboard. The Bakelite components used in this instrument indicate it was a late Wartime product as the instrument makers were running out of raw materials, especially brass.

Some staining and fading to wooden case, movement running well at the time of cataloguing, label clear
