William Page Atkinson Wells, RBA (1872-1923) The 9th Green Westward Ho! - Royal North Devon Golf Course, oil on board signed William Wells lower right - image 12" x 16" - c/w original label laid down on the verso. From the late David Easby Estate. Note Born Glasgow in 1872 and studied at the Slade before moving to Sydney, Australia for 5 years. Returned to Europe, working in Paris under Bouguereau and Ferrier in Paris. Lived in rural France for a time where he became an admirer of the Barbizon school. After a short stay in Glasgow, he settled in Preston for 7 years as a scene painter before finally settling in Devon where he became well known for his rural and landscape scenes.
