TWO PIECES BY THE FAMOUS SILVERSMITH P. ORR & SONS MADRAS - LATE 19TH CENTURY, (i) A tall presentation cup, engraved – ‘The Native Infantry Cup – Won By – Mr. Osburne’s Brown Bread – Ridden by Owner – St. Valentine’s Meeting – Secunderabad 1888’. Impressed maker’s mark to the base – P. Orr & Sons, Madras. Dimensions: 25.5cm tall x 12.5cm wide at the top, 11cm wide at the base. (ii) A P. Orr & Sons of Madras tankard. Possibly Indian Silver – no hallmarks, but that would not have been unusual at that time. The maker’s mark of P. Orr & Sons, Madras is impressed to the base. Engraved to the front: ‘The Lilliputian Cup – Won by – Mr. Osburne’s Marian – Ridden by Mr. Lawless – St. Valentine’s Meeting – Secunderabad – 1888’. Dimensions: 14cm tall x 12cm wide including handle x 10cm wide at the base. Weight: of Tankard: 13 troy ounces.
