A FINE VICTORIAN SPORTING GUN BY PURDEY OF LONDON. A fine sporting gun with a smooth bore 93 cm barrel tapering from circular to octagonal with decorative rings to the centre, engraved to the top 'J. Purdey & Son, Audley House, South Audley Street, London, Made on sir Joseph Whitworth's fluid pressed steel'. The percussion firing action with scrolling hammer and finely engraved side plate with inset silver detail, engraved 'J. Purdey & Sons'. The scrolling trigger guard and mount equally finely engraved and numbered 15331. On a walnut stock with fine cross-hatching and engraved butt-plate. 136cm overall. *CR: Slight marking to the timber, a fine gun. *BP 22.5% (18.75% plus VAT) plus a lot fee of £8 inc. VAT on each lot.
