More Information

This piece looks to be a rent table cut in half, it is modelled to stand against a wall the back being plain panelled timbers, however if placed against the wall one is not able to open the rear concave doors, colour overall is of good rich dark reddish brown mahogany tone and fair state of polish, all of the top is lined with tooled tan leather skivers all of which have a fair amount of wear and damage, central hinged segment has some losses around the edges and has an even structure to the underside, right side section is split through the leather but lifts away now as two separate flaps revealing compartments for inkwells, pens, etc. along with a large recess, the left hand section only lifts away on the left side with the right side pinned in place but again opens to reveal a matching set of compartments albeit at a differing angle, central drawer has original lock and working key, handles are later replacements, side doors have never had locks but again have replacement handles, central convex cupboard doors to the kneehole have unusual brass hinge fittings and enclose four long drawers, the top one being held shut by a concealed locking device. Overall something of an oddity but well worth inspection.
