Framed & Glazed, some yellowing to finish but remains a striking piece - Plate XLIII ( 43 ) from the Zoologia Britannica, Augsburg around 1771 - 1778. Printed on handmade paper. Image dimensions of the plate print approx. 46 x 30 cm (height x width), sheet dimensions approx. 50 x 34 cm. The sheet is in good condition, with slight foxing and finger staining in the white outer edge, and the lower right corner is more foxed. The sheet is slightly creased. Verso with small remains of old mounting. Overall good condition. - rare - >>>Magnificent large sheet from one of the rarest ornithological works printed in Germany. The English painter Peter Paillou (* around 1720 - around 1790) is best known for his bird pictures, many of which were used as book illustrations. The painter and engraver Johann Jakob Haid (*1704-1767), a student of Johann Elias Ridinger, founded his own publishing house in Augsburg, which was continued by his son Johann Elias Haid (*1739-1809)
