A PORTRAIT OF J. G. B. DE WILTON IN THE UNIFORM OF THE INDIAN 8TH CAVALRY WITH HIS BELTS AND POUCH. A caricature style portrait of Julian Gerald Barnes De Wilton in the uniform of the 8th Cavalry, Indian Army, body colour and watercolour, framed and glazed, 32 x 27cm. With his Cavalry Officers pouch and pouch belt, the pouch with curved silvered from with gilt conjoined initials for Edward VII, the belt with similar engraved fittings and twin flechettes, with his belt buckle and belt for the III Cavalry, the rectangular buckle with III beneath a King's Crown and above a ribbon 'Cavalry' against a textured gilt ground, the belt in gilt thread against a red ground. With a small quantity of badges.
Julian Gerald Barnes De Wilton was born on the 5th of August 1893 in Masalli, India. He served with the 8th Cavalry, the Third Cavalry being given as his second unit. He was with the Indian Army as 2nd Lieutenant from the 11th January 1914, (24/8/ 1912 with the British Army), Captain from 24th August 1916 during which time he served with the Somaliland Protectorate Force, Major from 24th August 1929 rising to Lieutenant Colonel from 24th August 1938. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese at Malai 1 between 15th February 1942 and 2nd September 1945, at this time his next of kin were given as Mrs A. de Wilton of Huntongdon Street, St Neots, Huntingdonshire. *CR: In nice original condition with signs of use and wear. *BP 22.5% (18.75% plus VAT) plus a lot fee of £8 inc.
