** LIVERPOOL - "LEPRETRE" P.O.W. COVER WITH OVAL "TRANSPORT/[Crown]/G.R./PRISONERS OF WAR"; 13 Nov. 1799 EL (part address rather ineffectually removed) from "L.F. Lepretre, Gunner of the Triton [French privateer], prisoner of War at Liverpool" to the Mayor of Alencon charged "10" with mainly fine oval "TRANSPORT/[Crown]/G.R./PRISONERS OF WAR" on the lower flap and faint "57/GRAVELINES" on the front. Lepretre asks if his father is still alive and sends greetings to his mother and family. One of only 4 recorded Liverpool POW covers (all dated 1799).
