Bleak House (in two volumes) Charles Dickens. Published by Bradbury & Evans, 1853 (same year as first edition).

More Information

Published in the first year as the first edition. Two volumes of Bleak House with illustrations by Browne (Phiz). Sadly, the volumes are in an Acceptable, bordering on Poor condition, hence the low estimate. Bound in leather to the spines and corners on marbled boards, the leather is scuffed, marked and split with finger pull damage causing splitting, top only for one and top and bottom to the other. Surface scuffs to the boards nad the conrers and edges are badly rubbed also. The paste down marbled paper is split and lifting in places. The boards for both volumes are pulling but still attached wiht internal endpaper seams cracked. Volume II initial page segment also pulling. Name inscription. Other than that, pages are tight to both but badly aged throughout with heavy spotting on some pages and browning/stains to others, particularly the plates. Very sad, condition wise, but still rare books having being presented together.
