WW2 RAF 1943 75 (New Zealand) Squadron Casualty Aircrew Europe Medal Group. Awarded to Pilot Officer Andrew Rankin who was killed in operations to Berlin on the night of 23/24 August 1943.
Comprising:
1939/45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, War Medal, Forwarding Condolence Slip. Card forwarding Box with address label. ... Accompanied by a small number of photographs. Pilot Officer Andrew Rankin from Bearsden near Glasgow, volunteered for pilot training and trained in the US, gaining both the RAF and US Air Force wings. Returning to the UK he was posted to 75 Squadron operating the Short sterling bomber around June 1943. On the night of the 23/24th August he was tasked with ops to Berlin. His aircraft was was brought down 3 miles South of Lanka, (14 miles North North East of Berlin), only one crew member survived to be taken POW.
