GWYNN PARRY JONES (1891 - 1963), known early in his career as Gwynn Jones, a Welsh tenor, this is a collection of music scores, letters and associated ephemera. Music books and scores include Tosca Puccini, Wagner, Handel, Noel Coward etc, some of which have Parry Jones' signature inside. Novello's Edition of "The Seasons" includes not only Parry Jones' stamp and signature but a letter from Ibbs & Tillett dated February 18th 1947 confirming details regarding his engagement at Rotherham Choral Society on March 20th. A score of Hungarian Folk-Music (1931) with an inscription "To Mr Parry Jones to sing when the young man is called up" signed F. Koclas. A programme for "The Henry Wood Jubilee Concert" held at the Royal Albert Hall in 1938 where Parry Jones was one of the tenors. The ephemera and letters include a 2nd World War white permit for ENSA 1940, invitations to Buckingham Palace Garden Parties, a dedicated photo from Wilfred Pickles, a few letters from 'George' Strube the cartoonist, a letter from John Barbirolli's wife Evelyn dated 1947 complaining about him not receiving an honour together with two others on the same subject, one to the private secretary of the Prime Minister, a programme for "Carmen" signed by Kiri Te Kanawa amongst others
The collection had been left to Brian Harper, conductor and trumpet player and includes a hand written letter to him from Parry Jones dated 1961 and two hand written letters from Henry Sandon.
