A FINE COLLECTION OF UNIFORM FOR THE 20TH BOMBAY NATIVE INFANTRY.
A collection of uniform comprising a scarlet jacket with eight button pocket-less front, the white collar with Crown and Star possibly for the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, with braid to one shoulder and three button cuffs and six buttons to the reverse. A shorter mess jacket with wound braided shoulders, 12 small buttons to the front. A white leather belt with gilt belt buckle with central XX beneath 'Persia', a Crown and Oak leaves, the buckle with scrolling oak leaves and acorns to each end. A Shako cap with red and white pompon, matching cap badge with XX to the centre, red silk lined interior and Japanned travelling case by J. Jones, 6 Regent Street London. Two lengths of red sashing, a modified piece of uniform and a white cap. By family repute this is the uniform of Henry Lancaster the seventh son of William Norton Lancaster of Ottery St. Mary Devon, who was an underwriter at Lloyds. Born on the 4th November 1820 he was educated by A Dr Cornish in Ottery St Mary. He served with the 20th Bombay Native Infantry and died on the 7th October 1865 at the age of 44. Sold with a small collection of historic family research.
