Louis Held (1851-1927) was court photographer at Weimar from 1882: "He forever changed the field of Liszt iconography. Held's portraits of Liszt...are unsurpassed in both content and form" (Alan Walker, Franz Liszt. The Final Years (1996), p.7). Caroline Lachmund was the wife of the American pianist Carl Lachmund, one of Liszt's pupils at Weimar (Walker, p.419)
