Provenance: From the residence of a prominent Irish art dealer
Very Gaffney, born in Wexford, has been shown in many exhibitions and has gained a huge following throughout Ireland. Vera has developed a distinctive painting style, her landscape painting based on days spent exploring the bogs and mountains of North Connaught, creating a sense of drama and passion. Her bold rillette work, working oil on linen, has been very popular with collectors and following Vera’s increasing reputation and limited output her work is only available in selected galleries. A trained traditional singer, it's not surprising that music is a recurring theme in many of Vera’s paintings. Her sell out “Jazz Windows” exhibition and more recent pieces “The Ladies of Palestine” and “Sligo Maid” based on traditional Irish airs find an artist steeped in time, attempting to capture the fleeting moment. Perhaps it is her experience as a traditional singer of some note that lends each painting a performance quality, dramatic, engaging and always with something to say. From her first featured piece in the 1999 Iontas Exhibition, Vera has been a multiple prize winner most notably at the Boyle Arts Festival (1999, 2000, 2001) .
