Harry Hall 1814-1882. An Oil on Canvas Portrait of the 1855 Derby winner 'Wild Dayrell' owned by Mr Francis Topham with the jockey Robert Sherwood up and being led by the trainer Mr Rickaby. 122 x 152cm. approx. No visible signature. Note. Another painting by Hall of the same subject with similar dimensions sold in Sothebys sale of important sporting art in New York 7th June 2001 Lot 496 with an estimate of 40-60000 USD. Harry Hall is considered, along with John F Herring, to be one of England's leading 19th Century sporting Artists who gained fame through his many commissioned portraits of classic winners.

The picture seems in general good condition and however it is in need of a good clean. It seems to be relined and there is some slight crackling. The picture has not been put under ultra violet light. It would be recommended all items of this stature should be viewed in person.
