Royal Engineers Officer Queens South Africa Medal Awarded to LIEUT A HARDCASTLE RE. Bearing two clasps Cape Colony, Driefontein. Retaining original ribbon and pin as worn. Correct Officer style naming. Lieutenant Alexander Hardcastle was commissioned in July 1892 and was promoted Lieutenant in 1895. After service in South Africa he resigned his commission and was recalled for WW1 service. A Lieut Alexander Hardcastle appears on the QSA medal roll serving with the Cape Government Railways as Traffic Inspector Cape Town. He is noted as working with armoured trains Troops and Stores, also blockhouse trains. He returned from South Africa in July 1900.
