Lawson E. Rudge (b. 1936), The Royal College of Art Football Team, oil on canvas, signed with initials lower right, 121cm x 90cm unframed, some mildew and canvas warped. Provenance: Provenance: from the studio of Lawson Rudge. Lawson Rudge trained at Stourbridge Art College, and then the Royal College of Art, where he was in the same year as David Hockney. Rudge settled in Morchard Bishop, Devon where, with his late wife Julie, he created a home and studio. During a successful career as a commercial ceramicist, Lawson Rudge became well known for his whimsical raku pottery sculptures, including flat cows and hares; Lawson has now retired to a home outside Exeter. Note David Hockney, a fellow student at the RCA, is the only person depicted as climbing a ladder, Lawson Rudge has portrayed himself peeing behind a tree, lower right.
