Iron age scabbard chape. A copper alloy anchor-shaped chape from a sword or dagger scabbard, dating to the Early Iron Age (800-300 BC). The chape consists of a socketed tube which narrows towards the end. From this project two curving and tapering arms which create the anchor shape. Each arm terminates in a circular bulbous projection.  Similar La Tène I chapes can be found in Stead and Rigby's book on the Morel Collection (Iron Age Antiquities from Champagne in the British Museum The Morel Collection). These include no. 2401, (pg 102, pl. 142) no. 2947 and 1515 (pg. 103 , pl. 144). These are all dated to the 6th century BC. See  HAMP-0219F8 and NMS-9A7C03. 6.09g 27.01mm
