1935 Royal Red Cross 2nd Class, WW2 Defence Medal and BWM attributed to Matron Nellie Gertrude Rees Princess Mary's Royal Air Force Nursing Service, RRC extremely fine, WW2 good very fine. Sold with RRC box of issue, RAF blue slips for WW2 to 5006 C.P. Matron (Chief Principal Matron), slip shows also issued 1939-1945 Star and MID oakleaf, with 3 photos of nurses in uniform, British Commonwealth Forces Japan Xmas card from matron and Sister at B.G. Hospital Iwakuni.
Nellie Gertrude Rees's ARRC was announced in the London Gazette as Senior Sister 3rd June 1935. She was later awarded RRC 1st Class "In recognition of exceptional devotion and competency displayed in the nursing and care of the sick in Royal Air Force hospitals at home and abroad," in the London Gazette dated 1st January 1941 and the Bar to the RRC in the London Gazette dated 10th June 1948. She retired from PMRAFNS at own request 10/4/48. With varied copied LGs which confirm service number as 5006 as per transmission slip. (R)
