Boer War Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1899 QSA 3 clasps Cape Colony, OFS, Transvaal, 1902 KSA both clasps and 1914-15 Star trio to 60674Sjt S. Cowan R.A.M.C. (10275 Corpl/Cpl on first 3) contact marks good fine and better, modern swing mounted. Solomon Cowan's DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 31st October 1902. He was also mentioned in Kitchener's Despatches dated 23rd June 1902.
With 10 copied pages of service record, MIC, LGs and QSA roll, he was born in Spitalfields, enlisted aged 18 in MSC 4/12/93 while serving in 5th Bn Royal Fusiliers Militia, served Jamaica 1895-98, South Africa 2/11/99 to 12/7/02, QSA roll shows service with Railway Rest Hospital and No 2 Advance Depot Medical Stores, discharged 3/12/05, re-enlisted 30/6/15, landed Egypt 4/8/15 and served with 21st Gen Hosp, discharged 5/8/19 no longer physically fit for active service and issued Silver War Badge No B294735 (this missing). He fractured his left tibia when tripping over a drain in camp while returning from latrines in darkness 9/5/19. (See photo) (R)
