A very simple Scottish basket hilted backsword, the 29” 18th century blade of thin wedge section with 2 narrow fullers (almost worn away on one side) and bladesmith’s mark of reversed trident between the initials “CH”, the basket guard of thin flat sheet steel with disc and dome pommel, the plain cylindrical grip covered with leather. GC (worn commensurate with some age, old riveted repair to one bar). Probably a local blacksmith made piece. £200-250
