A late Qing dynasty Chinese silk embroidered waistcoat, circa 1900, possibly from Xaipei, the vertical opening front embroidered with Imperial five clawed dragon chasing a flaming pearl amongst peonies and clouds on a red silk ground, with cream silk border embellished with mirrored discs and further peony embroidered border and collar on green brown silk, the collar with scroll velvet 'mandarin' border, and having three brass ball buttons, with silk loop fastenings, the whole backed onto hessian.

Colour of red silk still good, some threads faded, silk to edge has sun damage and 'rotting' (where silk has separated and worn due usually to light over time) throughout, some mirrored discs broken.
