A large Japanese gold lacquer and mother-of-pearl comb, Edo period. Decorated with an ox-cart beneath a pine tree, two seated gentleman on verso, 7.7 x 11.8cm, a Japanese gold lacquer comb, signed, decorated with bamboo and flowers, 4 x 9.5cm; a Japanese Edo-shaped tortoiseshell comb, 1.5 x 10cm; a Japanese gold lacquer comb, probably Meiji period, depicting a house in the mountains and trees, 3.3 x 8.2cm; a Japanese plain gold lacquer comb, Edo/Meiji period, 3 x 9cm; a Japanese gold lacquer comb, Edo period, decorated with figures dancing in a landscape, 3.5 x 9.5cm; and a Japanese gold lacquer comb, decorated with autumn flowers and grasses, signed, 3.5 x 8.5cm. (7) From the collection of Pat Johnstone, a Cornish artist and sculptor, who also had a passion for collecting Asian antiques and especially Japanese combs, kogai and kanzashi. Her collection has been curated for over 40 years and includes items from the Miriam Slater collection.
