AN EDWARDIAN MARINE-THEMED MANTLE CLOCK YACHTING PRIZE


constructed in brass, with 3½in. white porcelain dial and blacked hands, lever escapement, the movement unsigned but stamped ‘EGL’ on backplate and set within an 11-spoke ship’s wheel, the front of the chamfered base painted with the ensign of the Castle Yacht Club between WON BY---“WEE WINN”, good working order, with key -- 11in. (28cm.) high



Wee Winn was a 1-ton sloop built in the famous Herreshoff yard at Bristol, Rhode Island, U.S.A. in 1892. Sold to H.C. Sutton in 1895, in which year she first appears in Lloyd’s Yacht Registers, she was subsequently sold to B.O. Cochrane of Bembridge, Isle of Wight in 1907. Measured at 16½ feet in length with a 4-foot beam, she carried 181 sq. feet of sail.
