Biography
Born in 1813 in Manchester, England, Cardwell attended the Royal Academy School in 1834 on the recommendation of Sir Francis Chantrey. Cardwell exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1837 until 1856. Upon moving to Paris, Cardwell studied under David d’Angers (1788-1856). Cardwell resided in Rome for some time and produced a series of large-scale classical marble figures and groups during the 1850's and 60's.
