VARIED RATES/ACCOUNTANCY MARKS -INC. P.O. NOTE REF. NEW FINES + FDC OF CANADIAN PACKET FINES; 1859-88 unpaid covers with a variety of GB claim markings and converted Canadian postage due rates, incl. Unique(?) first-week of the new Fines cover (8 Apr. 1859 ex Glasgow) endorsed by Canadian P.O. (Waterdown CW) "Tell reason why the Single Letter is 1/5d and not as usual, only 10d" on reverse (with the Lpool h.s. "10d" mark and m/s "1/5" Canadian postage due rate), 14 Apr. 1859 unpaid env. to London to Toronto "By Canadian Mail Steamer" and so charged the lower 6d rate (than the Cunard 8d) - m/s "4d" British claim and then "1/3" Currency due (converted from sterling 6d postage + 6d fine) - carried by the Allan Line 'North Britain' which left Lpool on 20 Apr. - the first Canadian Packet sailing after the introduction of the Fine), and unpaid 1860-88 quintet with varied m/s rates (up to "81c" (quadruple rate + fine), and 1888 failed "Free" env. to Ottawa.
