A CHINA AND FIRST WORLD WAR GROUP OF FOUR TO THE ROYAL NAVY. A group of four comprising China War Medal 1900 with Relief of Pekin clasp named to E.O. Frith P.O. 1 Cl H.M.S. Endymion, 1914-15 Star named to Gnr E.O. Frith R.N. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named to Frith as Chief Gunner. Remounted as worn. Mounted for display with copied research. Ernest Oliver Frith was born on the 9th October 1876 at Croyden in Surrey. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy on the 9th October 1894 signing on for 12 years service. According to his record he was a zealous and capable gunner and during the First World War he was recommended for special promotion to Lieutenant. He was present at the Battle of Jutland aboard H.M.S. Galata, and was discharged on the 1st April 1920 after 28 years service. He returned to service during the Second World War as a Boom Defence Officer at Sunderland being finally promoted to Lieutenant on the 28th November 1941. He was medically unfit by the end of 1943 and died in 1948 at the age of 71. Mounted for display with copied research.
