Star Lot: A wonderful original antique watercolour on paper painting attributed to George Petrie P.R.H.A titled "The Pool at Leixlip" dating to the 19th century. Features a fantastic scene of the titular landscape showing a romantic and sublime waterfall being observed by two figures from the bottom in the manner of the Irish Landscape School. The atmospheric perspective is rendered particularly fine and the restrained construction of the foliage and water speaks to the skill of the artist. Petrie's watercolor's sell excellently at auction, with the artist fame making his works ever collectable. Label to verso with attribution. Housed in a gilt frame.
Mm: 60 x 50 cm
