Richard Llewellyn Benson Rathbone and W A S Benson, an Arts and Crafts copper and brass three light wall sconce, the planished fanned shield form back plate repousse embossed with reeded tendrils and convex roundels, applied with a three branch arm in canted square section brass with turned saucer drip trays and urn sconces, stamped Rathbone Liverpool, 45cm long Note: a relation and contemporary of W A S Benson, Rathbone had also trained under the London metalworker in the 1880s, no doubt using Benson's characteristically machine-finished and interchangeable candle components in his own hand planished and individually constructed designs. It is more than likely the candelabrum section of this design was made by or at least designed by Benson, with almost identical pieces in terms of design and structure (screw section sconces etc.) being shown in the Benson catalogues.
