A Jaques London red and white ivory 3 1/2" Staunton chess set, c.1850, with Carton Pierre casket, kite marks for 1st March 1849 8.25 x 6 x 4in.

CONDITION: Casket looks to be in good order, with red velvet showing through the lid, green velvet to the interior with tooled gilt leather around the edge of the interior of the lid, later support straps have been fixed in place, no label to the casket, lid with very slight upward bulge at the front.

Red - tiny areas of flaking to the cross finial of the king, tiny chips to the tips of the Queen's crown, both bishops a little faded and dirt speckled, one has the green kite mark sticker, minute chipping around the horses ears, black crown stamp to one of them which also has the green kite sticker, one castle with black crown stamp to the top which also has a green kite sticker, pawns all look good, two have green kite labels.

White - King with JAQUES LONDON stamp to base, Queen with several crown points broken away, both bishops with green kite label, one knight with black crown stamp to head the other with green label, one castle with crown stamp to top, both with green labels, one pawn with tiny chip to ring collar, also has a green label.
