AN ANTIQUE 23 BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL FITTED WITH AN 8'' BARREL, its lock is marked Collumbell and the barrel bears a London proof mark and the letter F which indicates the barrel maker was not a member of the London Guild of Gunmakers, its barrel is attached to the stock with two wedges rather than pinned and the end of the trigger guard is engraved with a pineapple design which first appeared on pistols in 1770, David Collumbell is listed by H. Blackmore as operating between 1735 and 1765 in Parliament Street, London and died in 1777, it therefore appears that either he had this made for him by a Gunmaker elsewhere than in the London trade or his name was erroneously marked on it, which was not an uncommon practice, it is in good working order although the barrel has lost all of its original finish, its ramrod appears to be original
