A fine Victorian walnut Lepidoptery Cabinet fitted single glazed door enclosing twenty sealed glass drawers enclosing a fine collection of British Macro-Moths and Butterflies including some larvae 3ft 11in H x 2ft 5in W.
The collection was collated by the Victorian amateur lepidopterist brothers Bernard and Alexander Adams between 1880-1920. The first two drawers complete the Butterfly Collection of the other Cabinet from the collection with the remaining species of blue butterfly species including Adonis Blue, Common Blue, Large Blue, Holly Blue, Chalk Hill Blue and Silver-studded Blue. The third drawer includes Larvae and Pupae before the remaining drawers including Macro-Moths and their Larvae including Line Hawk, Privet Hawk, Spurge Hawk, Narrow-bordered Bea Hawk, Broad-bordered Hawk Moth, Death's Head Hawk, Convolvulus Hawk, several Clearwings, New Forest Burnet, Scarce Green Silver Lines, Goat Moth, Water Ermine, Leopard Moth, Kentish Glory, Emperor, Lackey, Sweet-Gale Moth, Shore Wainscot, Peach Blossom, The Dot, Archer's Dart, Crescent Dart, Orange Upper-Wing, White-spotted Pinion, Broad-barred White, Clifden Nonpareil, Red Underwing, Light Crimson Underwing, etc.
