** LEEK (STAFFS.) - PAROLE P.O.W. LETTER ENDORSED "Not Paid. Chas. Grey Agent" BY LEEK P.O.W. CENSOR; Very fine 4 Aug. 1810 EL (unsealed) from POW "Perier De Salvert" on parole in "Leek" to his friend Bilette Querouel in Quimper ref. money and mail problems. Unusually it has been endorsed "Not Paid" and "Single. Chas. Grey" [the Transport Office Agent and censor for Leek Parole POWs]; it was charged "4" (decimes) on delivery, having been routed via London to Morlaix. The contents include; "Being on parole, I believe, is the best way to write in this country. We are certain that it is not the fault of the English Government that the Correspondence of the French Prisoners is so poorly served."
