Charles I (1625-1649) Pound, Oxford mint, 1642, mintmark plume on obv. only. ‘Shrewsbury’ horseman left, holding upright sword, Oxford plume to right, arms and cannon below. Rev, declaration in two lines, three Oxford plumes and value above, date below, legend with group of seven pellets, 119.4gm (S. 2940; N. 2398; SCBI Brooker 860, same dies). Slight edge flaw at 2 o’clock, otherwise Good Very Fine, old cabinet tone with considerable eye appeal, rare. Ex. H M Lingford Col. (Glendinings part I, 24th. October 1950. Lot 149 [£31.]) Ex. Talbot-Ready Col. (Sotheby, 15 November 1920).
