£8,500
A 1924 Triumph SD, registration number BF 8770, frame number 337021, engine number 979830GH, green/black. The revised 4hp sidevalve Triumph was introduced in 1914 and saw sterling service in the Great War with some 30,000 machines being despatched to the Allied forces. In 1920 the Triumph became known as SD standing for spring drive, it would later form the basis of the four valve Ricado model. This SD remained unused for over 40 years before being purchased by our vendor. There followed a painstaking restoration which took two years to complete (photographs on file of pre and post restoration). The works carried out were extensive which included a fully rebuilt engine, stove enamel frame, overhauled forks, new wheel rims, spokes, tyres and inner tubes, new saddle, handle bars, chain, exhaust and silencers, fully repainted fuel tank, and numerous other items associated with a restored motorcycle. The SD is a matching numbers bike which was assembled at the factory in March 1924 and was subsequently registered at Essex County Council on 19th July 1924. Unfortunately because of the length of time the SD was off the road and the loss of the original logbook the Triumph had to be re-registered with an age related number. The Triumph will be offered for auction with an operating manual, spares list (both photocopies) and sundry paperwork. It is only being offered for sale due to the vendor now reaching the age of 85 and he is now unable to ride the machine. V5C, MOT and tax exempt See illustrations
