Japanese sword with a very sad story - This piece belonged to Robert Tienteh who was obsessed with everything Chinese and who had an over riding desire to go to China or Japan which led to his death aged 16. Tienteh of Bancroft Road, Stepney, hired a boat at East Looe, Cornwall, which was later found empty and Robert missing. It is thought he was trying to row to meet a boat for China. Lot includes several original newspaper cuttings, a photo, his leaving letter mentioning the Sword, dated 1947. Sword handle cannot be released so tang not inspected for a signature.
