Shipibo terracotta pottery bowl, 20th C, squat form, two faces with protruding features on opposite sides interspersed with geometric patterns in brown and red.
13cm high, 12cm opening diameter.
Acquired in 1984 while the owner was living and working in Lima, Peru. Purchased at Maroti Shobo in Pucallpa, a commercial centre for the Shipibo-Conibo people of the Amazon, alongside the Ucayali river.
The traditional open-fired clay pottery is crafted by women, with skills passed down through the generations.
