India. 1829 (Mar 28) Printed "Adjutant Genls Office" O.H.M.S lettersheet signed by G. Howes, addressed to "Lieut John Edward, Hon. E.I. Comp. Artillery, Bengal" with inland and Ship Letter Office "FREE" datestamps. Redirected to Benares and again to Nusseerabad, seven Indian backstamps include oval "RAJPOOTANA / BEARING" and "DUM DUM / POST OFFICE" (2 strikes, one with manuscript date), various Indian rates. An unusual use of the Ship Letter Office Free datestamp type Sh2 to India. Photo on Page 48.
