Boer War Queens South Africa Medal 5 Clasps Tuzela Heights, Orange Free State, Relief of Ladysmith, Transvaal & Laing's Nek awarded to 2868 Pte C G Clarkin W Yorkshire Regt (some alteration to surname on medal rim). Kings South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902 awarded to 2869 Serjt C Clarkin W York Regt. Medal rolls for 2nd Battalion Prince of Wales Own West Yorkshire Regiment confirm the soilder was entitled to the medals and clasps as detailed above. 2nd Battalion deployed to South Africa in November 1899 and experienced fierce fighting, they remained in the Transvaal chiefly employed in escort and garrison duties until August 1902.
