£100 - £150
A carved wood, cowrie shell and coin inset mask, probably Tikar Tribe, Cameroon, mid 20th century; of stylised form throughout, the coins all inscribed AFRIQUE EQUATORIAL FRANCAISE LBRE; 30cm high, 18cm wide NOTE: Strictly speaking, Cameroon was not a part of the political entity of French Equatorial Africa, but the mask with its shells is more typical of Cameroon, half of which became a French protectorate after the Great War, and it is conceivable that French Equatorial coinage was used there.
