A vintage handpainted Staffordshire flatback vase. This example depicts ''The Murder of Thomas Smith''. In the mid 1860s Thomas was murdered by his neighbour William Collier who he had caught poaching on his land. At trial Collins was found guilty and sentenced to hang - the execution was bungled and public opinion swayed towards Collier. Circa 1930s.
