An early 19th century rectangular portrait miniature of a middle-aged senior Naval officer, with fully-receding short grey hair and pale complexion, (palette style of Richard Crosse), his body and head turned half right, and wearing unbuttoned blue double-breasted frock coat with gold epaulettes and gold ‘anchor’ buttons, white waistcoat and shirt collars with black cravat,’ unsigned, gouache/ watercolour on rectangular ivory slip, 100x75mm, mounted in black reeded wooden frame, gilt-bordered glass panel and plain iron suspension loop.
