Life-size representation of a Red Kite in flight. It is made of carved mahogany overlaid with copper. The basic shape is carved and varnished, and then all the individual copper pieces are cut, filed, sanded, then fixed to the mahogany base.
It is mounted on a welded steel support, cast into a reinforced concrete base for stability.
The whole project took about 190 hours.
I have not fixed the bird onto the support for ease of transport.
All that is required is an amount of good quality epoxy resin (possibly Araldite), to fix the bird onto the support when the final siting is decided.
