John Newton was Rector of St. Mary Woolnoth, City of London and is said to have written it for the sampler of his niece, Miss Elizabeth Catlett. It has also been suggested that it was composed by Isaac Watts (1674-1748) for his niece. Condition:Textile is in good condition with no holes, repairs or staining.
