Baroness Emma / Emmuska Orczy (Hungarian-born British, 1865-1947) - An oil on canvas painting by Hungarian-born British novelist and playwright Emina Orczy. The painting depicting a woman by a harbourside untangling a net. Signed and dated 1888 to the bottom right. Framed. Measures approx. 44cm x 33cm unframed. 

The Baroness' father tried to develop her musical talent, but she did not have an ear for music. She moved to painting, and developed "a mad desire to adopt an artistic career." She was soon attending the West London School of Art, and Heatherley's studio school.
