A George II oak longcase clock, 30cm square brass dial inscribed Henry Deykin, Worcester, No 1169, Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, twin winding holes, 8 day movement striking on a bell, the case with pagoda pediment flanked by turned finials, rectangular door to waist, plinth base, 209cm high, c.1750 Henry Deykin was the son and successor to Worcester clockmaker Thomas Deykin and his wife, who was also a clockmaker. He was apprenticed to his mother 1744-1751 and he worked until 1788. The numbering system as displayed (very unusually) on the dial - here 1169 - is believed to have been carried over from his parents' oeuvre.
