Clare WHITE (1903-1997) Fountain of Neptune reverse view, Versailles Watercolour, 38.5 x 51cm. St Ives artist Clare White chose an unusual perspective for this watercolour of the Fountain of Neptune at Versailles. The composition with shining water in the foreground, the shaded avenue of trees and the Palace of Versailles in the distance, is all the more absorbing for it. Clare spoke French fluently and often stayed in Paris visiting friends and finding inspiration for her painting.
