Property of a deceased estate - John James Audubon (1785-1851) - FLORIDA JAY, Garrulus Floridanus / Diospyros Virginiana, plate 87 from 'The Birds of America' - engraved printed & coloured by R. Havell Junr., London 1830, the paper watermarked 'J WHATMAN' with date 1830, sheet size approximately 700 by 555mm, in glazed frame. Footnote - accompanied by a letter from Christie's dated 14th November 1985 suggesting an estimate of £ 800 - 1,200, and various manuscript notes regarding restoration work at Beach's of Salisbury in 1994 following a recommendation from Christie's. Condition - Christie's 1985 letter points to the following condition issues before it was restored at Beach's - '5 tears in the margins, one 4 inches or so; a stain down the middle, probably from an old backboard; slight overall foxing; and also slight creasing'.
